Fall Sunshine

Dear Signal Hill Families,

We had an exciting week filled with a successful fire drill, the Terry Fox Run, and school pictures! If you missed the pictures, re-takes are November 2nd.

Here are some important dates coming up next week:

Monday, September 27th
  • Professional Day for Teachers – NO SCHOOL for students

Wednesday, September 29th
  • Orange Shirt Day at Signal Hill – we encourage everyone to wear an orange shirt or ribbon to recognize Truth and Reconciliation Day

Thursday, September 30th
  • Truth and Reconciliation Day – NO SCHOOL

A reminder if your child is eligible to ride the school bus, please complete this survey by September 29th at noon. We are currently experiencing a significant increase in our ridership, and it is important for us to have accurate numbers to ensure we have adequate space on the bus for your child and others that may be requesting a seat.

Terry Fox Run:

Signal Hill and ecole La Vallée had an energetic warm-up led by Lindsay May from Kufuka Fitness before running around our school field in support of Terry Fox. We raised $756.05! Way to go! Thank you for all of your donations and support!

As we move closer to Orange Shirt Day, which is coming up next week on September 30th, we continue to examine our own journey and understanding of reconciliation. Our Indigenous members of staff have taken the lead in preparing for our upcoming virtual assembly, creating videos with students and planning the drumming and singing on the day.

Here is a great video explaining what reconciliation is:
