Hello Signal Hill Families,

Happy New Year! We are so excited to have all our students return on Monday! We hope you had a relaxing and fun break.

As you may be aware, we are returning to school with some enhanced COVID-19 safety protocols in place. We want to remind everyone of some of our key strategies to ensure we are keeping everyone safe. Many of the protocols are the same as what you and our students are used to, with some differences. Please review these important reminders with your child before school on Monday.

Personal Measures

Daily Health Checks

·     Anyone entering the building should not be sick and should have performed a health check using the  BC Self-Assessment Tool or the K-12 Health Check app.

Visitors

·     Visitors will be limited to those supporting educational programming.

·     All visitors should make an appointment and check in and out with the office.

Masks

·     Everyone at school (without exemptions), must wear a mask in accordance with the PHO Order on Face Coverings

·     Masks should fit well and cover the mouth and nose.

Hand Hygiene

·     Please use sanitizer upon entering the school. Handwashing stations and sanitizer is available throughout the building.

Personal Space

·     Please consider and respect others’ personal space and avoid crowding. Personal space is the distance from which a person feels comfortable being next to another person. If you are unsure, 2 meters of space is a good starting point.

Entrances and Exits

·     Students should enter and exit the school through their outside classroom doors. If arriving after 9 am, please enter through the front and check-in with the office.

Water Bottles

·     Please continue to bring a water bottle for drinking. Students are encouraged to fill their water bottle at their classroom sink to avoid crowding in the hallways.

Washroom Occupancy

·     A maximum of two people should be in the washroom at one time to avoid crowding.

For more detailed information about our safety measures, please see our COVID-19 Safety Plan on our website. Please let us know if you have any questions. We also anticipate more information will be sent home from the school district later today.

On Monday morning, teachers will welcome their students back at the outside door of their classrooms. Our Intermediate students will not have their blended classes on Monday morning, so please send your child to their regular classroom for the first day back. The blends will start again on Tuesday morning.

For parents and guardians accompanying their child to school and picking them up at the end of the day, we have been asked to reduce the number of people around the entry and exit doors. Please be mindful of the personal space of others during these drop-off and pick-up times.

Please try to send warm clothes and a set of spare clothes to school with your child. We have a ton of snow here and there will be plenty of outdoor play. We have some extra warm clothes at school for those that may forget or cannot bring an extra pair in.

Also, please make sure to inform the school if your child will be away from school. You can do this by contacting the school at 604-894-6378 and leave a message or email she@sd48.bc.ca with your child’s name and the days they will be absent.  We will be monitoring our attendance closely and want to ensure all of our students are safe.

Finally, we want to take this time to thank all of our families for all of your patience and support with us as we took the time this past week to help prepare for a safe return to school. We feel confident we are ready and we look forward to seeing all of our students back at Signal Hill on Monday morning.
