Dear Signal Hill Families,

We had a fantastic week with Professional Development for our teachers on Monday and our school "Carnaval" on Thursday. We were blessed to have amazing weather for a day of activities with our school and école La Vallée. Students, staff, and families participated in a float parade, winter sport competitions like sled races, and snowball throwing, dance routines, and were treated to la tire d'érable (maple taffy made in the snow) and hot chocolate and fresh bannock. Saying a lot of fun was had would be an understatement! Merci, Kúkwstum’ckacw, and thank you so much to all of the staff and volunteers for making such a special day possible. A special thank you as well to Pemberton Valley Supermarket for their support and donations.

Illness Reporting

As you are aware, Provincial Health will be considering student attendance information over the next couple of weeks. To support this, districts have been asked to establish baseline data for monitoring student illnesses.

Therefore, schools are being asked to specify in their daily attendance, absences due to illness. While the type of illness is not to be specified, it provides a comparison between students being absent due to illness versus a number of other reasons (vacation, field trips, medical appointments, athletics, injuries, etc.).
In an effort to best monitor student attendance information, we are asking parents to please specify if their child(ren)’s absence is due to illness. Again, it is not necessary to specify the illness.

We thank you for your continued support in helping us maintain accurate student information.

As part of building a culture of inquiry, students in Ms. Cameron and Ms. Madsen's class had 4 different kitchen chemistry stations that the students were free to choose based on their questions. They collaborated by assigning jobs such as filmer, mixer, ingredients adder, etc. They got to decide how much to put and if they wanted new ingredients, they would advocate for their group by asking for it. They were given colourful papers of all sizes to document the story behind their science.
