Signal Hill Circular - February 25th, 2022

February 25th, 2022
Dear Signal Hill Families,
The sun has been shining this week and so has Signal Hill! We observed Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday - it was was great day to lift each other up and celebrate diversity and caring. It was neat to see so many students and staff wearing and displaying pink. Many of our intermediate classes were on field trips this week to go skiing and believe it or not, we are starting to look forward to spring break!

We are also feeling optimistic about the rescinded addendum to our communicable disease plan. Please see our updated Communicable Disease Plan on our website. Part of this means we can again welcome spectators to our sports games and upcoming tournament. Please continue to make an appointment with the office and following other safety protocols like wearing masks and washing hands. Thank you for your continued support and flexibility!
We had some super help cleaning up the school grounds this week! ;)

What Parents and Students Need to Know
Illness Reporting
As you are aware, Provincial Health will be considering student attendance information over the next couple of weeks. To support this, districts have been asked to establish baseline data for monitoring student illnesses.
Therefore, schools are being asked to specify in their daily attendance, absences due to illness. While the type of illness is not to be specified, it provides a comparison between students being absent due to illness versus a number of other reasons (vacation, field trips, medical appointments, athletics, injuries, etc.).
In an effort to best monitor student attendance information, we are asking parents to please specify if their child(ren)’s absence is due to illness. Again, it is not necessary to specify the illness.
We thank you for your continued support in helping us maintain accurate student information.
Truth and Reconciliation
Some examples of our continuing journey from this week includes:
Cina, one of our Cultural Support Workers, is teaching classes about traditional ways Indigenous peoples fished in our surrounding communities and the differences between fishing on the Fraser and Lillooet rivers.

Learning Connections
Students in Ms. Belyea's class are making "rock candy"! Yum!

Students in Ms. Farrell's class have been celebrating Kindness Week leading up to Pink Shirt Day. They wanted to recognize helpers in the community and chose to focus on PAWS, Pemberton's volunteer run animal shelter. Their class raised $22.25 to donate towards helping animals in need. We encourage anyone who's looking at adopting a pet to check out PAWS website. There's a sweet senior named Bubba currently looking for his forever home!
