Signal Hill Circular - September 26th, 2024

September 26th, 2023
This week at Signal Hill...

Mrs. Black's Grade 2/3 class create their own orange shirt.

In recognition of Truth and Reconciliation Day and Orange Shirt Day, and to promote understanding and healing within our school and community, students gathered around the Survivors’ Flag
for an assembly on Thursday, September 26th.

As part of our ceremony today, students placed dried sage and lavender from our garden around the base of the Survivors' Flag. In Lil'Wat culture, the tradition of smudging helps us to slow down and to be mindful, remembering the children and helping them find their way back.

This event, along with other learning activities that students have been a part of, leading up to this,
help Signal Hill and the community to remember and honour residential school Survivors
as well as all of the lives impacted.

Mrs. Cameron's Grade 2/3 class listens to Shi-Shi-Etko by Nicola I. Campbell; a story about a young girl who spends her last few days before leaving her family and attending a residential school, appreciating the beauty of her world and listening to teachings her family want her to remember.
Grade 6/7 students also hosted our "Routine Rally" where all of the classes tour around the school and learn about expectations in important places.

Signal Hill also hosted the Scholastic Book Fair and Open House this week.
It was so great to see everyone excited about books and getting to know our students' families.
