What's been happening lately at Signal Hill...

Many Language Classes including Ms. Montie’s went on field trips with Heather J - students really enjoyed singing, drumming, and dancing with her. Heather's Dad did some storytelling and students were very captivated. Students found the nature scavenger hunt to be fun as well as the barn visit…

Some classes went on a trip to Porteau Cove Trip looking for sea-life…

Ms. Black’s class had a Crepe Party to celebrate their collaboration with Madame Longchamps’ French Immersion class. Students really enjoyed being buddies for each other…

The S.H.E. Library is now closed for the school year. Please continue to return all books back to the library when you're done and look at home and in your classroom if yours is missing.

Please visit your local Pemberton Library this summer to continue finding things you love to read about! They also have some wonderful programs there this summer and prizes too!

What Parents and Students Need to Know

AI Supports for Parents/Caregivers and Students: New resources are available for the education sector to support local considerations and decision-making regarding the use of AI tools in K–12 schools in B.C. The Digital literacy and the use of AI in education: supports for British Columbia schools web page now includes three student posters and a two-page informational sheet for parents and caregivers. Further resources for teachers will be added in the current school year.

Feeding Futures:

Feeding Futures is a commitment of the Provincial Government to ensure students are properly fed for learning to enhance positive academic and health outcomes. Beginning in Fall 2023, $214 million will be given to school districts throughout BC over three years to create or expand local school food programs. This new, ongoing program will support existing school-based programming while offering additional opportunities for students to access food at schools. Learn more here.

Canada Dental Benefit for Children Under 12: Please help raise awareness for the Canada Dental Benefit. The first benefit period was a success, with 50% of eligible children in British Columbia—34,260—receiving the benefit. That’s something to smile about!

Sea to Sky Safety Net is a hub of self-care tools and local resources to help connect Sea to Sky residents to mental health and substance use support services. www.seatoskysafetynet.com

SOGI 123 for parents:

SOGI 1 2 3 Parent Resources were created in collaboration with BC Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils (BCCPAC) and the BC Ministry of Education to answer parent questions about what SOGI-inclusive education looks like in Canadian schools.
