Signal Hill staff came together on August 27 & 28 for some summer learning. We were fortunate to have gone to the former Coast Mountain Outdoor School, down the Pemberton Meadow Road, that was returned to the Líl̓wat Nation in 2022 through a Land Back agreement with School District 48. A huge thank you to Skícza7ul, one of our wonderful Indigenous Support Workers and Ucwalmícwts teacher for leading our day there.
This week we started up Garden Wednesday again here at Signal Hill. It's harvesting time and we are preparing for our annual Seed to Pit event coming soon in October.
On Thursday last week, we had our first school-wide assembly to welcome everyone back and introduce new staff and review some of Signal Hill's CARE
We have 412 students registered this year at Signal Hill with 52 new kindies! Please well on staff Chelsea McPolland our new Fine Arts teacher, Annabella Jakubowski, our new 4/5 teacher and Cat Blair, who will be team teaching with Ms. Penney in grades 1/2 on Wednesdays and with Ms. Hahn on Thursdays and Fridays in grades 2/3.
Today was our annual Terry Fox Run Day. We started out the day with a warm up outside and then we ran together as a school in support.
And with this beautiful weather this week and the smoke gone, we have been able to hang out with new and old friends, some we haven't seen since June!
We are so lucky and grateful to be learning and living on the ancestral and unceded territories of the Lil’wat and St’at’imc Nations.
Don't forget to please check your email regularly for communication from the school. We have 2 very important reminders. First of all, Signal Hill Elementary is a Personal-Digital-Device-Free school. That means students are not allowed to use any personal digital device from home at school between the hours of 8:45 and 3pm. Thank you for your support on this. And finally, next Tuesday, September 16 is a Teacher Collaboration Day. School will be out at noon. Thanks everyone and have a great weekend!
