NEW & NOTEWORTHY

Screenagers – Growing Up in the Digital Age

School District 48 District Parent Advisory Council presents:

We hope you and your loved ones will sign up soon to take advantage of this opportunity sponsored by SD48-DPAC
This school year we will be bringing at least three segments of this documentary series Screenagers. The series was created to help parents navigate the risks and benefits of our kids using digital devices in our current time.

Please join us for this well-researched and helpful series to help parents understand how to best support our youth and even children as they begin to forge relationships with phones, computers, devices and gaming systems. What is dangerous? What is safe? How is it helping or hurting our kids?

Be a part of the conversation by watching the first of these 3 films and participating in our facilitated discussions and panels this school year. Our first presentation is coming up very quickly Wednesday December 3rd at Pemberton Secondary School. There will be both live and virtual options to participate.

The video link will be available for two weeks from today to December 10th . You can watch Screenagers – Growing Up in the Digital Age on your own time in a time and place that works for you, even if you can’t make the event on Dec 3.

The live facilitated event will happen December 3rd at 5:30 PM for the screening and 7:00 PM for the live discussion
This link will take you to be registered for access to the film itself that will be available to you from now until December 10th: https://www.eventcombo.com/e/screenagers-

We highly recommend registering FOR BOTH. Watching the video before the day of the event is best. Please proceed with registration through both links You will thank yourself later! That way, if you can’t make the event, or you miss it, you can watch the video anytime from now to December 10.

Our next screenings of the 2nd and 3rd films, will be later this year most likely in Whistler and Squamish. If there is a high demand we can bring more to the community in the future. You can watch trailers at :

REMINDERS

Below are some rules and reminders to all our families that we ask you to read and go over with your kids!
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email the office at [email protected].

We would like to remind all families and students that once students arrive at Signal Hill Elementary, whether by bus, walking, biking or being dropped off, they are expected to remain on school grounds for the entirety of the school day.

  • For the safety and supervision of all students:
Once a student steps off the bus or is dropped off in the morning, they are considered “on campus.”
At that point, they must remain on school grounds and may not leave the campus until dismissal, unless otherwise directed by school staff or with prior parent/guardian permission.
This closed-campus policy is in place to ensure every child’s safety and accountability during the school day.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us maintain a safe and secure environment for all students.

ALL DOGS MUST BE ON LEASH AND WITH THEIR PET PARENTS

We welcome dogs at Signal Hill, but they must always be on leash and attended by their owners. Please help us ensure everyone’s safety!

ALL WHEELS MUST BE WALKED ON SCHOOL GROUNDS

For everyone’s safety, please speak with your children and ask them to walk their wheels while on the school grounds between 8:15 am and 3:30 pm! We ask that staff, parents and visitors also walk their bicycles, scooters, skateboards, etc. Remember to get off your bicycle at the crosswalk and walk your wheels there too!

....................................................................................................................................
We would like to remind you that we do not take messages for students unless it is an emergency. Please make your children’s after school arrangements ahead of time and send them with a note if they are going home with someone else.

Please do not use the school buses to transport other children who do not ride the bus to your house for birthday parties as our buses are very full and it is not permitted.

No cell phones are permitted during school hours. We will take them from students and keep them in the office until the end of the day if we see them being used. Thank you for speaking with your children about this!
We have noticed that many children do not know their parents’ names or phone numbers! We encourage you to teach your children this very important safety information!

....................................................................................................................................
Supervision starts at 8:25 am outside. We do not allow students in the building before school unless they are going to the breakfast program which starts at 8:25. Please be aware the children are not supervised outside or permitted in the school before 8:25.

Please come to the office to sign out your children if you are picking them up early.

....................................................................................................................................
Have you moved? Changed phone numbers? Changed emails? Have new emergency contacts? Please contact the school office at [email protected] or call 604-894-6378 to let us know! Thanks for keeping us updated!

....................................................................................................................................
Please do not send your children if they are sick. We will call you to pick them up if we see they are sick.
If you are unsure about sending your children to school if they have symptoms of a cold or illness, please call the BC Nursing Line (HealthLink BC) at 811 and they will help you determine if your children can come to school.

Attendance – if your children are absent from school, please call the office at 604-894-6378 and leave a message or email [email protected] with your childrens’ first and last names and the days they will be absent.
