In recognition of Truth and Reconciliation Day and Orange Shirt Day, we hosted a
Survivors’ Flag raising ceremony. This event, along with the Survivors’ Flag, is an expression of
remembrance, meant to honour residential school Survivors and all the lives and communities
impacted by the residential school system in Canada, and to promote understanding, healing,
and unity within our school and community.

We also presented our completed Project of Heart, drummed and sang, and shared our orange shirt designs. It was a powerful day to come together with the community.

All students were sent home with a "medicine tie" as part of our ceremony today. In Lil'Wat culture, these medicine ties are to carry good thoughts and prayers for the children who did not make it home from residential school. You may put this tie somewhere special or give to an elder. A tie can also be put back into the ground or in some traditions burned in a sacred fire. Inside the tie is dried sage, lavender and sweetgrass from our school garden.

We also hosted our "Routine Rally" this week where classes tour around the school and learn about expectations in important places from our grade 6 and 7 students.

Our school also hosted the Scholastic Book Fair and Open House this week. It was so great to see everyone so excited about books and to get to know our students' families.

Grade 4 and 7 Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA)

Every year, all grade 4 and grade 7 students in BC complete the Ministry of Education's Foundation Skills Assessment. We use this data to help plan our school and provides valuable information about student learning, and ensures all students are developing a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy. For more information about the assessment please click here.

Bear Safety

It's definitely the time of year when we see bears in our community and around our school. Please see here for tips on how to stay "bear aware".
